Our Goal

To reward Maine students who have demonstrated a continuing commitment to character and self-development. The core principles of the Mainely Character Scholarship Program are:

• Courage: Taking risks and following your conscience with fearlessness.

• Integrity: Being truthful and trustworthy to oneself and others.

• Responsibility: Conveying an attitude of commitment and conviction.

• Concern: Demonstrating compassion and a caring attitude toward others, helping them to achieve their best.

Eligibility

• Maine residents who will be matriculating into a post secondary program for the first time next Fall.

• The school or college attended by the award-winning recipient must be Title IV eligible. (To find out whether your chosen school qualifies, use the Department of Education's IPEDS COOL search to look for it, making sure to check the box at the bottom of the search form for "Title IV participating".)

Application Process

• You must complete an application, which includes a 500-word essay, and submit it as directed. You may either complete the form online by clicking here or use the printable version and mail it to us. Either way, we must receive your application by March 1 of this year, no later than 5pm.

• The Mainely Character Scholarship Committee will screen all applicants and arrange for a personal interview.

• Your references will be checked.

• All applicants eligible for an interview will receive notification on or before June 1.
