2024 Brunswick High School
“You never know what you can accomplish when you face a fear!”
At the age of 12, Charlie experienced a life-altering diagnosis of a rare heart condition that would prevent him from continuing to participate in cardiac-intensive sports. Instead, he decided to help others find the love and passion for sports. He began volunteering for the Special Olympics, a decision that would change his life.
He stayed involved from then to now, and is a leader in the local, State, and National Special Olympics. He has won national awards and worked to have Brunswick High School nationally certified as a Special Olympics Unified Champion School. Selected as a Special Olympics Youth Ambassador for North America, he has traveled all over the country to advocate for students living with intellectual disabilities. His service has grown over the years, from launching an initiative called The Warrior Program during the COVID-19 pandemic, which provided funding to Special Olympics coaches, to making and distributing motivational and instructional videos for athletes while they were unable to meet in person.
His leadership and enthusiasm helped him guide his school’s Golf Team to its first state championship in school history. This humble, determined, and genuine young man acts always from the point of caring.
Charlie plans to continue his studies at Bryant College.
