Anna Seigel

$5000 Katharine Lyon and Tim Glidden
2024 Waynflete School

“I need to be part of the solution and not the problem.”

Anna is committed to protecting the natural world she passionately loves.  She was the Maine co-coordinator of the first nationally-led youth Climate Strike and co-created Maine Youth

Action. As Advocacy Director, Anna helped shepherd bills on climate issues through the Maine State Legislature.

Anna’s goal is to continue her work as a climate advocate and become a conservation ornithologist, combining her dual lives of binocular-carrying naturalist and megaphone-toting activist.

Anna seeks solutions. She organized a Yarmouth Pride Market earning money for Maine Trans Network to be used for teen support groups and more. Upon learning that her hometown of Yarmouth had no carbon drawdown or natural disaster mitigation plans, she persisted over four years, engaging local high schoolers to successfully establish plans that address both areas.

Anna inspires others to join in her determination to face challenges. Her successful coalition building includes skills in teaching and persuasion.

Anna will attend Cornell University.
