Rafael’s commitment to concern for others and other attributes have helped him overcome the struggles he faced navigating a new world. He speaks of his challenges as strengthening his commitment to kindness and hard work and emphasizes his compassion for others through his many volunteer activities. Rafael makes the most out of every opportunity, whether it is sports, academics, or a part-time job to supplement his family’s income, or helping other families as they settle in a new world.
Those that know him well emphasize his courage, sense of responsibility, truthfulness, and tenacity to fulfill his responsibilities to himself and to others. He does not allow obstacles to stop him or turn from the integrity and compassion that he shows to others.
Rafael will attend the University of Maine, Fort Kent, majoring in computer science.
