Keegan Butler

2021 George Stevens Academy, Blue Hill

$2500 Scholarship Sponsored by Market Decisions Research

I know what it’s like to be on the other side of hatefulness

Until the summer before his senior year, Keegan, self-described “lipstick-wearing, hyper-feminine man who knows what it feels like to be on the wrong side of hatefulness,” planned a lucrative career in marketing and fashion.  The deaths of George Floyd and Brianna Taylor changed his mind. He will major in political science because he wants to focus on contributing to society as an advocate for social justice.

Keegan volunteers at the Blue Hill hospital, with Helping Hands, during blood drives, and with a youth services writing group; he was integral to the school’s first online-only Giving Day.
